Lash Extension Aftercare: 9 Tips from Dallas Lash Artists for Longer-Lasting Sets

Lash Extension Aftercare: 9 Tips from Dallas Lash Artists for Longer-Lasting Sets — Dallas lash extensions at Luxe Lashes Beauty Studio

You can book the best Dallas lash extensions in the city and still lose them in two weeks if your aftercare is off. The good news: lash aftercare isn't complicated — it's just a handful of consistent habits. Here are the nine rules our Dallas lash artists give every client before they leave the studio.

1. Skip water and steam for the first 4 hours

Modern adhesives cure fast, but giving your set 4 quiet hours protects the bond. After that, water is totally fine.

2. Cleanse daily with a lash-safe foam

This is the #1 retention tip from every Dallas lash artist we know. Oil and product buildup at the base of your natural lash breaks down adhesive faster than anything else. Cleanse nightly with a foam cleanser made for lash extensions.

3. Never use oil-based makeup remover on your lash line

Cleansing balms, micellar waters with oil, and most drugstore eye-makeup removers will dissolve your set within days. Read the ingredient list — anything with 'oil' near the top is a no.

4. Skip waterproof mascara

Waterproof formulas require oil-based removers, which (see above) break down adhesive. If you must wear mascara, use a water-based formula on the tips of your lash extensions only.

5. Brush your lashes every morning

A clean spoolie, gently brushed through your extensions every morning, redirects any lashes that shifted overnight and prevents tangling.

6. Sleep on your back when you can

Face-down sleeping is the fastest way to lose lashes from one side. If back-sleeping isn't realistic, invest in a silk pillowcase to reduce friction.

7. Be gentle with heat

Opening the oven, leaning over a steaming pot, or sitting too close to a hair dryer can weaken the adhesive over time. Heat-styling tools are fine — just don't aim them straight at your lash line.

8. Book refills every 2–3 weeks

The longer you wait between refills, the more your Dallas lash tech has to charge to rebuild the set. Sticking to a 2–3 week refill cadence keeps the work (and the cost) consistent.

9. Never pick at them

We say this in every consultation: picking is the single biggest cause of natural lash damage. If a lash extension feels loose, leave it alone or come in for a quick removal — don't pull.
