Why Are My Lash Extensions Falling Out? 8 Real Causes

Losing a few extensions a day is normal shedding. Losing a noticeable chunk in the first week is not. Here are the eight causes we see most often, roughly in the order worth checking.
1. Poor isolation at application
If an extension was glued across two or more natural lashes, it comes off when the shortest one sheds — early, and often taking others with it. Stuck lashes also feel tight or tugging. This is an application issue, and it's the reason we take the time to isolate every lash.
2. Oil near the lash line
Oil cleansers, rich eye creams, heavy SPF, and naturally oily skin all soften the adhesive bond. Switch to lash-safe, oil-free products around the eye area.
3. Not cleansing at all
This is the one clients resist most and it costs them the most. Skin oils, makeup, and debris build up at the base and break the bond down. Daily cleansing with a foaming lash cleanser is the single biggest retention habit.
4. Getting them wet too soon
The adhesive needs about 24 hours to finish curing. Steam, sweat, and water in that window weakens every bond at once.
5. Sleeping face-down
Friction bends and snaps extensions and pulls at natural lashes. If you always wake up flatter on one side, that's your answer. A silk pillowcase helps; sleeping on your back helps more.
6. Touching, rubbing, and picking
Pulling off an extension takes your natural lash with it. If a lash is twisted or bothering you, come in — never pull.
7. Your natural lash cycle
Shedding speeds up seasonally and after stress, illness, pregnancy, or medication changes. Nothing is wrong; you may just need refills on a tighter rhythm for a while.
8. Waiting too long between refills
Once a set is heavily grown out, the remaining extensions are unbalanced and more prone to catching and pulling. Booking within the 21-day refill window keeps the set stable.
If your set came from another studio
We offer a Foreign Refill ($95) for sets applied elsewhere, within 14 days. Acceptance varies — improper isolation can't be refilled safely, and in that case a removal ($35) plus a fresh full set is the honest fix. Send photos when you text and we'll tell you which one you need before you book.
