How Long Do Lash Extensions Last? A Lash Artist Explains

An individual lash extension stays on until the natural lash it's attached to sheds — that's the whole answer. Because you're shedding natural lashes every day as part of a normal growth cycle, a full set gradually thins rather than falling off all at once. Most clients book a refill within 21 days to keep the set looking full.

Extensions follow your lash cycle, not a calendar

Each natural lash grows, rests, and sheds on its own schedule. Some of the lashes we work on at your appointment are near the end of that cycle and will shed within days; others are just starting and will hold an extension for weeks. That's why shedding a few extensions in the first week is normal and not a sign of bad work.

What makes a set look grown out

Two things happen at once. You lose extensions as lashes shed, and the extensions that stay travel outward as the natural lash grows, so they sit further from the lash line. The set stops looking crisp before it looks sparse.

What affects how long yours last

• Your natural shedding rate, which varies by person and season
• Oily skin and oil-based skincare near the eye
• Sleeping face-down or on one side
• Rubbing, picking, or using mascara on extensions
• Frequent steam, saunas, and hot yoga
• How consistently you cleanse them

Retention genuinely varies from client to client, and no honest lash artist can promise a fixed number of weeks. What we can do is apply the set correctly and show you the habits that protect it.

When to book your refill

Book a refill within 21 days of your last appointment — that's our Refill window at $80, or $100 for a Signature Set Refill. Mega Volume Refills are $100. If you had your set done at another studio, book a Foreign Refill ($95) within 14 days. Past those windows, a full set is usually the better result and the better value.

Make your set last longer

Daily cleansing does more for retention than anything else people try. Oil, makeup, and skin debris break down the adhesive bond at the base. Our aftercare guide walks through the routine step by step.
